Chümoukedima conducts mass social work for monsoon readiness

Kohima: Residents and government officials across Chümoukedima gathered on May 22, 2026, for a district-wide social work initiative. The project focused on preparing the region for the monsoon season by cleaning drains, removing debris and waste, and clearing overgrown foliage from public spaces and utilities.

Thejavizo Nakhro, the SDO and RO of Chümoukedima, led a joint inspection of the work along National Highway 29. A collaborative team including the Water Resources Department, the Public Works Department, and the 1st NAP Battalion cleared the stretch of highway between the 3rd Mile Airport culvert and Chathe Bridge. They received additional support from the local fire service, town youth organizations, and the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited.

This effort relied on the cooperation of village councils, civil society organizations, and the general public to improve local sanitation. Organizers stated that the initiative was designed to foster community involvement while creating a cleaner and safer environment before heavy rains begin.
