Guwahati: The central government greenlit a 15,431 crore project to expand the NH-15 stretch between Baihata Chariali, Mission Chariali, and Tezpur. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the deal this week. He claims the work will modernize a key transport artery and speed up travel across the state.

This corridor links Guwahati to Sonitpur and upper Assam districts. It also serves as a main route into Arunachal Pradesh. Sarma said the project pushes his goal of better regional access. "When I speak about development, I envision connectivity that bring people closer to opportunities," the Chief Minister stated.

The upgrade aims to link commercial hubs, colleges, and tourist sites. It fits into a broader federal plan to dump cash into roads, bridges, and railways across the Northeast. Officials expect the construction to ease traffic congestion and draw new business into the region. Better roads remain a top priority for the state government to drive economic growth.
