Imphal: The Central Bureau of Investigation and security forces have arrested a primary suspect linked to the 2023 murder of two students in Manipur. The arrest occurred during a joint operation in the Churachandpur district on Saturday morning.

Authorities identified the detained individual as Nohgin Baite Kuki, who is known as Tiger Nohgin and allegedly serves as a commander for the KNF(Zougam). Following his apprehension, officials transported him to Guwahati late Saturday afternoon for intensive interrogation.

The investigation centers on the deaths of Linthoingambi Hijam and Phijam Hemanjit, who vanished on June 6, 2023. Their disappearance became a flashpoint during the height of the regional ethnic violence. Public outrage erupted months later when graphic images of the two students surfaced online, leading to widespread protests demanding justice.

While the CBI has yet to release a formal statement, officials regard this capture as a significant milestone in the ongoing probe. Investigators intend to pursue further leads and follow-up operations related to the case as they work to hold those responsible accountable.
