Shillong: The Department of Human Development and Family Studies at the College of Community Science, CAU (I) in Tura, kicked off a new certificate course in Early Childhood Care and Education on September 3. This program targets the growing need for trained staff in Meghalaya.
Dean Dr. Jyoti V. Vastrad spoke at the launch event. She emphasized how early education shapes a child’s path. "The course would provide skill development and employment opportunities in preschools, daycare centres, Anganwadi programmes, and NGOs," Vastrad said. The training creates a pipeline for jobs.
Head of Department Dr. Kh Ringsuachong Aimol outlined the curriculum requirements. He pointed to the boom in preschools driving this demand. Students will split their time between theoretical study and practical work at the department Laboratory Nursery School. The coursework covers classroom management, child assessment, and play-based learning to ensure trainees handle real classrooms with ease.
