Kohima: Can Youth handed out helmets and reflective jackets to Community First Responders at their Dimapur office. This event marked the end of a training program run throughout 2024 and 2025 alongside the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority. The initiative covers the Chümoukedima and Dimapur districts.
Gaihemlu Gonmei chaired the session, which included attendees from the District Disaster Management Authority, local civil society groups, and various guests. Dr. Gaihianlung Kamei, director of CUPA at Rongmei Baptist Church in Burma Camp, offered the invocation. The event showcased the program's journey before CFR Prodip Dey shared his personal experience regarding the skills gained during the training.
Can Youth founder Jenpu Rhakho Rongmei delivered the keynote address. He emphasized how the partnership with the state authority ensures volunteers possess the practical skills needed for emergencies. He told the trainees that disaster preparedness is a shared responsibility. "He encouraged responders to serve their communities with dedication and integrity, stressing that disaster preparedness is a shared responsibility," according to the session summary.
Assistant Manager P. Inaka Sema served as the special guest for the day. As the nodal officer for DDMA Dimapur, he praised the volunteers for their hard work. He warned them to stay safe while working. "He urged volunteers to prioritize their own safety before assisting others and said the helmets and reflective jackets symbolize dignity, responsibility and preparedness."
Nuyielu Nyekha, the programme manager at Can Youth, closed the event by thanking the state authority and the participants. The group aims to keep building community resilience through better resources and training.
