Guwahati: Cachar Police collared two men posing as doctors during a late-night sweep on June 26. The arrests mark a sharp push to flush out unqualified medical practitioners across the district.

Officers hauled in 53-year-old Biswajit Singha of Bontarapur for his involvement in Sonai Police Station Case No. 64/2025. Hours later, authorities grabbed 26-year-old Bikran Singha of Tarapur. He faces charges under Silchar Police Station Case No. 580/2026.

The suspects now face a long list of legal headaches. Police registered the cases under "Sections 316(2), 319(2), 336(2), 340(2), 125 and 271 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)."

The investigation is active. Detectives are still digging into how long the pair operated before the handcuffs came out.
