Cachar District Issues Flood Alert as Barak River Rises

Guwahati: Cachar district officials issued a flood alert today as the Barak River surges. Incessant rainfall triggered the warning. The India Meteorological Department expects heavy rain across Assam for the next two to three days.

The District Disaster Management Authority warned of flash floods and urban waterlogging. Officials are monitoring the situation around the clock. Every department is on high alert. The administration stated, "The situation is being monitored round the clock, with all departments, emergency services and field-level officials placed on high alert."

Residents must avoid flooded roads and submerged paths. Hidden hazards and strong currents threaten lives. Authorities told citizens to keep emergency kits ready with dry food, water, and medicine. Switch off electricity if water enters your home. Move valuables to high ground immediately.

The DDMA urged people to stay away from streams and culverts. Do not cross submerged roads on foot or in vehicles. Keep phones charged and watch for official updates. Avoid spreading rumors.
