Guwahati: Residents in Assam's Bongaigaon district prevented a potential abduction after intercepting a truck and rescuing a 14-year-old girl. The incident took place in Chaparakata when the minor boarded a vehicle she believed was heading toward Guwahati.

Local witnesses grew suspicious of the interaction between the girl and the driver, prompting them to follow the truck. The group eventually forced the vehicle to stop near the Aie River Bridge and pulled the girl to safety. The driver, identified as Jaimangal Yadav, was held by the crowd until police arrived to take him into custody.

Authorities have launched a formal investigation to clarify the circumstances of the encounter. Police are currently questioning Yadav to determine his intentions and check for potential links to human trafficking. According to initial reports, the prompt action of the community was vital, as officials noted that the "prompt action of the local community played a crucial role in preventing what could have become a serious incident involving the minor."

The girl is reported to be safe, and police continue to gather evidence as the inquiry unfolds.
