Guwahati: A 52.76 lakh rupee embezzlement scandal is rocking the Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission in the Bongaigaon district. The missing cash was tied to the government-backed Start-Up Village Entrepreneurship Programme within the Srijangram Development Block.
Accusations point directly at BRC President Morzina Khatun and Secretary Laili Begum. Officials allegedly caught the pair during a routine financial audit. Suspicion remains high. Critics claim authorities bought the suspects extra time to hide their tracks instead of taking immediate action.
A formal complaint sits at the Abhayapuri Police Station. Frustrations are boiling over because police have yet to file a First Information Report. Local groups now fear the scheme runs deeper than two people. The Koch Rajbongshi Sangram Samiti and the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad are leading the charge for a full probe into the lost funds.
These organizations have warned the district administration that they will move forward with their own protests if officials refuse to act. "The organisations warned that if the district administration fails to initiate prompt action against those responsible, they will launch their own course of action."
