BJP Nominates Sarda Devi for Manipur Rajya Sabha Seat

Imphal: The Bharatiya Janata Party officially nominated Adhikarimayum Sarda Devi as its candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha election in Manipur. On June 8, she filed her nomination papers at the Manipur Legislative Assembly Secretariat in the presence of Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh, various BJP legislators, and senior party leaders.

Sarda Devi previously made history as the first woman to lead the BJP state unit in Manipur. Her current nomination for the Upper House of Parliament represents a notable advancement for the party, which expects to retain the seat due to its firm majority in the state assembly.

The Election Commission set June 8 as the deadline for filing nominations. Officials will conduct the scrutiny of papers on June 9, and candidates have until June 11 to withdraw their bids. If a contest is required, polling will occur on June 18 between 9 am and 4 pm, with vote counting to follow at 5 pm.

While Manipur prepares for its vote, the Election Commission noted that "Rajya Sabha elections will also be conducted on June 18 in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Rajasthan."
