Agartala: The Bharatiya Janata Party has appointed MLA Abhishek Debroy as the new president of its Tripura unit. The move is part of an organizational reshuffle announced on May 28, 2026, aimed at strengthening the party's grassroots network ahead of upcoming electoral and political activities in the state.
Official notification of the appointment came from Arun Singh, the party's national general secretary and headquarters in-charge. The decision was approved by national president Nitin Nabin and takes effect immediately. Debroy, who represents the Matabari constituency, replaces outgoing president Rajib Bhattacharjee.
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and several cabinet ministers, including Sudhangshu Das, Tinku Roy, Sushanta Chowdhury, Ratan Lal Nath, and Pranajit Singha Roy, congratulated Debroy on his new role. They expressed confidence that his leadership will help the party achieve further growth in the region.
This appointment is part of a broader shift within the BJP across multiple states. The party also named new leadership for its units in Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi. Kewal Singh Dhillon will lead the party in Punjab, Archana Gupta will oversee the Haryana organization, and Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra has been appointed to head the Delhi unit.
