Shillong: Senior BJP leader and MLA A.L. Hek has urged his party to expedite the selection of a candidate for the upcoming Shillong parliamentary by-election. Speaking to reporters on Friday, Hek noted that the party is facing significant pressure to make a decision as the window for finalization narrows.
The local leadership has received applications from nine individuals seeking the party ticket. Hek confirmed that party officials are scheduled to meet next week to evaluate these aspirants and select a final nominee. Addressing the urgency of the situation, Hek stated, “We have to decide now. Time is running out.”
Despite the high number of applicants, the party has yet to settle on a preferred contender. The upcoming leadership meeting is expected to resolve the selection process and bring an end to the current uncertainty regarding the BJP's representative for the seat.
