Bishnupur Sets Stage for First District Olympic Games

Imphal: Manipur is gearing up for the 1st Bishnupur District Olympic Games. The event kicks off in the second week of July 2026. Sports Minister Govindas Konthoujam met with organizers today to review the roadmap for the competition.

The District Administration and the Bishnupur District Olympic Association are running the show. They have the backing of the state Directorate of Youth Affairs and Sports. The Manipur Olympic Association is also providing oversight.

Konthoujam praised the organizers for the heavy lifting they have already done. He believes high-level competition builds a stronger community. "Promoting a sporting culture contributes significantly to building a healthy and disciplined society," Konthoujam said.

The Minister tied the local effort to national goals. India wants to host the Olympics one day. He expects this event to find and train the next generation of top-tier athletes. Deputy Commissioner Pooja Elangbam briefed the room on the logistics. She walked officials through the project plan, ensuring the state and the district remain on the same page for the summer start date.
