Imphal: The first Bishnupur District Olympic Games wrapped up Sunday at Chengei Lampak in Moirang. Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh attended the closing ceremony. They focused on finding and training the next generation of athletes.
Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Govindas Konthoujam joined various MLAs and top government officials at the event. Athletes and volunteers received praise for their hard work. Bhalla noted that these local events build on national programs like Khelo India. He wants every district in Manipur to host similar games to widen the pool of talent.
Chief Minister Singh argued that these games spark healthy competition among youth. He believes this format readies local players for national and global stages. The event ran from July 8 to July 12 under the banner of One District, One Spirit, Khello Bishnupur.
Reflecting on the success of the meet, Singh stated, "Held from 8th to 12th July under the theme "One District, One Spirit, Khello Bishnupur," the Games provided a vibrant platform to promote grassroots sports, foster unity, and nurture emerging sporting talent." Officials now look to expand this effort to secure the future of the state sporting legacy.
