Guwahati: Barpeta police arrested five suspected drug peddlers during a series of raids across the district. Officers struck Howly, Sarthebari, Barpeta Road, and Barpeta town simultaneously. They hit the trade hard.

In Sarthebari, cops seized 172 bottles of cough syrup. Over at Barpeta Road, they found 0.76 grams of heroin in eight vials, 240 Yaba tablets, and Rs 42,940 in cash. Officers also collected two mobile phones used for trafficking. The sweep in Howly turned up more heroin, weighing in at 11.84 grams, along with additional vials and a mobile handset.

The Barpeta town raid netted 0.52 grams of heroin, five Yaba tablets, two syringes, and 63 empty containers. Authorities confirmed that the operation is part of a wider push to crush supply lines. Police said, "All five accused have been apprehended for their alleged involvement in drug trafficking and will face legal action under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act."

The state is turning up the heat. Every arrest aims to break the local supply chain.
