Guwahati: Security forces and police have rescued 115 residents of Assam from a suspected human trafficking operation in Bihar. Nine individuals have been arrested in connection with the case following a coordinated mission between the Sashastra Seema Bal and local law enforcement.
The victims were lured away from their homes near the Assam-Bhutan border with false promises of steady employment and government jobs. Many of those recovered are minors, and the group includes 48 females. Officials launched the operation after parents in Tezpur reported losing contact with their children who had been taken by suspected traffickers.
An official involved in the mission noted that the network specifically targeted vulnerable families. Intelligence leads eventually traced the victims to the Samastipur district. According to the Sashastra Seema Bal, "The victims were allegedly lured by traffickers with false promises of government jobs and employment opportunities."
All 115 rescued individuals have returned to Assam, where they are undergoing counseling and rehabilitation before reuniting with their families. Investigators are now working to determine the full scale of the racket and whether other individuals remain at risk. Authorities are urging the public to verify all job offers through official channels and report any suspicious recruitment activity immediately.
