Assam woman claims husband vanished after abusive marriage

Guwahati: A Dhubri woman claims her husband deserted her following a month of physical abuse. Mamta Kumari and her parents went to the police to demand protection. They say her husband, Bishnu Bin, has gone missing after their short marriage.

The couple eloped before holding a ceremony at Mahamaya Snanghat. They moved into a rented flat in Bidyapara, but the situation turned sour fast. Mamta alleges that Bishnu abandoned her soon after the wedding.

Now her family faces new trouble. They claim the groom's uncle, Birender Bin, is harassing them. The victim's family claims that he has "repeatedly threatened them and attempted to pressure Mamta into marrying another person in exchange for a monetary settlement."

They believe the uncle is abusing political ties to intimidate them. Mamta and her parents are broke and scared. They want the police to track down the husband and stop the harassment. Police in Dhubri have not commented on the case yet.
