Guwahati: A 14-year-old student from Bamunbari High School in Moran, Assam, has died by suicide, prompting her family to allege that persistent mental harassment by a teacher and a classmate led to the tragedy. The victim, identified as Aini Sonowal, was found dead at her home on June 16.
The family claims the situation began after a disagreement between Aini and a classmate. Accusations emerged that Aini had created a fake Instagram account in the classmate's name to post inappropriate comments using a teacher's photograph. Following this, the teacher reportedly summoned Aini to school to address the matter. Relatives allege that both the teacher and the classmate subjected the teenager to intense psychological pressure during this period.
Aini’s family further stated that the teacher forced the student to post an offensive WhatsApp status from her father's phone as a form of punishment. The resulting social backlash from villagers caused the girl significant emotional distress. Aini’s mother has called for a thorough investigation, stating, "Aini’s mother has demanded justice and urged the administration to conduct a fair inquiry into the circumstances surrounding her daughter’s death."
A formal FIR was filed at the Bamunbari Police Outpost on Wednesday by the girl's father, naming both the teacher and the classmate in the complaint. Authorities are expected to investigate the claims, although the school administration has yet to issue an official statement regarding the allegations.
