Guwahati: Sonai Police arrested Dr. S. Gnanavel on Wednesday after accusations surfaced that he molested a Class 6 student. The incident allegedly occurred inside his private chamber at Sonai APJ Senior Secondary School around 2 p.m. Local residents caught the principal, assaulted him, and dragged him to the police.
News of the assault triggered immediate outrage across the Cachar district. Hundreds of villagers, including members of the Tribal Women's Association, swarmed the Sonai Police Station to demand justice. They filed a formal complaint and shouted slogans for harsh punishment.
Parents now fear for their children. They insist schools must remain safe zones. One resident told investigators that "educational institutions are expected to be safe spaces for children." Police have registered a formal case. Officers are currently gathering evidence to build the file for prosecution.
