Assam School Faces Backlash After Alleged Student Assault

Guwahati: A Class VII student was reportedly injured during a physical altercation at St. Xavier's Public School in Assam's Bongaigaon district. The incident took place on Wednesday, May 20, as students were leaving for the day. Family members claim the victim suffered visible facial injuries after being attacked by another pupil on campus.

Parents have accused the school administration of failing to protect their children, noting that no first aid was provided to the injured student. They also stated that officials did not inform them about the assault, forcing the family to find out about the incident through other channels. When parents arrived at the school, they alleged the acting principal was dismissive and behaved unprofessionally toward journalists covering the event.

Local residents and guardians have long criticized the school, which is operated by two brothers from Kerala. Allegations suggest the owners run the institution in an arbitrary manner that fosters a disorderly environment. Disturbed by the lack of oversight, local families are now calling on the district administration to intervene and hold the school accountable for its safety standards.
