Guwahati: Assam Rifles joined forces with the Silchar Customs Department to bust a massive smuggling operation on June 30. They hauled in illegal foreign cigarettes valued at 2.8 crore rupees in Cachar district. The bust followed a tip regarding interstate trafficking.

Teams fanned out across several locations to track the contraband. They eventually cornered trucks moving the illicit load through Kalain. The shipment was destined for Meghalaya and nearby states. Officials handed the evidence over for legal processing.

The agencies are working to tear down smuggling rings across the region. They called the recent operation a win for public safety. "They described the latest seizure as a significant success in efforts to curb the illegal trade in contraband products."
