Assam Resident Arrested After Attempted Abduction of Student

Guwahati: Locals caught Sanjiv Chauhan after he tried to snatch a Class 10 student near the Mokamsara Tea Estate in Assam. The girl was walking to tuition with a friend when Chauhan grabbed her on a quiet road. He also reportedly tried to outrage her modesty during the struggle.

The girls screamed. Residents heard them and rushed to the scene. Chauhan bolted but people chased him down near the Dullavchhara Station Road. They held him until the Ratabari Police arrived to take him into custody.

The victim's family filed a written complaint with the department. Officers booked Chauhan and sent him to court. Investigators are still looking into the case. Local people submitted a memorandum to the police claiming that "various anti-social activities had been taking place at the accused's residence for a long time."

Residents want legal action. They also want more protection for women and children in the area. Sribhumi district faces a rise in reported crimes against vulnerable groups, leaving the community on edge.
