Guwahati: A 28-year-old man, identified as Raju Khan, is in police custody following the alleged sexual assault of an 11-year-old girl in Margherita, Assam. Local residents and authorities report that Khan gained access to the family home by befriending the victim's father and using gifts to earn their trust.
The abuse occurred in Sidehing Agbandha village and was discovered after the child's health began to decline. Concerned neighbors questioned the family, leading to the revelation of the crime. Upon learning of the assault, an angry group of villagers apprehended Khan, beat him, and turned him over to the Margherita police.
The police have registered a case against Khan under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and the Indian Penal Code. Officials are currently conducting forensic procedures and medical examinations as part of a fast-tracked investigation. The local Superintendent of Police confirmed that authorities are also probing how the suspect established such close ties with the household.
