Guwahati: Education Minister Ranoj Pegu descended on the Dhemaji Medical College construction site July 12. He wants the doors open by next year. His mission was simple: inspect the pace and fix any delays. The Assam government remains hell-bent on launching the facility for the next academic session.
Pegu gave clear orders to the agencies on the ground. Speed up the work. Do not cut corners. He insisted on maintaining high standards while hitting the firm deadlines set for the project. The minister demanded the build stay on schedule.
Key officials stood by as he toured the grounds. Prof. (Dr.) Shyamanta Barua, the newly named principal, accompanied him alongside Dr. Pran Protim Saikia from the Directorate of Medical Education. Engineers from the PWD Building office in Guwahati also joined the review. State officials believe the college will overhaul local care, noting, "The proposed medical college is expected to significantly strengthen healthcare infrastructure and medical education in Dhemaji district and the surrounding regions of Assam."
