Assam Pushes Irrigation Projects to Boost Local Farming

Guwahati: Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika inspected the Hatiamukh Irrigation Project in Jagiroad on July 12. The project cost the state 30.67 crore rupees. It is already pumping reliable water to paddy fields and securing the incomes of indigenous farmers in the area.

Hazarika shared his findings on X after a walk through the site. He praised the work as a model for future infrastructure, noting how targeted spending lifts agricultural output. He said, "It was encouraging to witness the positive impact of the irrigation infrastructure on agricultural productivity in the region."

The minister credited Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and former Irrigation Minister Ashok Singhal for getting the project off the ground. He promised that the government plans to build more irrigation networks across Assam. Officials intend to keep pushing these projects to lock in sustainable farming for the long haul.
