Guwahati: The Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) suspended Sub-Divisional Engineer Dibakar Das. The move follows accusations of gross negligence and a failure to restore electricity in the Lakhipur sub-division. The suspension took immediate effect.

Residents of Binnakandi dealt with erratic power for days. The summer heat made life difficult. Locals struggled to charge phones or handle basic household chores. They repeatedly complained to the office, but the power failures continued.

The issue eventually reached Lakhipur MLA and Assam Minister Kaushik Rai. Senior APDCL officials reviewed the situation. They launched formal proceedings against Das for his handling of the outages.

The official order states that disciplinary action was initiated against Das on "charges of gross negligence in restoring power supply and failure to discharge his official responsibilities."

Das must now hand over his duties to a replacement. He will receive a subsistence allowance while the departmental inquiry moves forward.
