Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed a 4,382 crore redevelopment plan for Gauhati Medical College and Hospital. The state plans to turn the site into a top-tier medical campus. Officials aim to replace outdated infrastructure with advanced buildings while expanding capacity for patients across the Northeast.

The project addresses the heavy daily load on existing facilities. By upgrading medical hardware and service delivery, the government expects to meet rising demand from across the region. Sarma signaled his confidence in the upcoming project on social media. "Wait till you see the new GMCH," Sarma wrote.
