Guwahati: Assam police hauled in a massive drug shipment worth nearly Rs 13 crore this week. Officers in the Sribhumi and Cachar districts rounded up six suspects during separate raids across the Barak Valley. The haul included 49,800 Yaba tablets and 535 grams of heroin.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the arrests on X. He noted that when caught, the traffickers tried to justify their actions. "This is business," they claimed.

Local police fired back at that excuse. They told the suspects that drug peddling has no place in the state. Sarma doubled down on his zero-tolerance policy, urging people to find honest work through government schemes instead of dealing drugs.

Detectives are currently hunting for the source of the stash. They want to find the rest of the trafficking ring. This bust is part of the ongoing state campaign to scrub the streets clean of illegal narcotics.
