Assam Police Bust Major Battery Theft Ring, Recover 825 Units

Guwahati: Police in Assam have dismantled a large-scale battery theft ring following a raid in the Howly area of Barpeta district. Authorities recovered 825 batteries that officials suspect were stolen from e-rickshaws throughout the region. The operation, led by Additional Superintendent of Police Samiran Baishya, targeted the Jashihati Para area based on intelligence reports.

Officers discovered the batteries being loaded onto a truck with registration number UP 38 AT 4717. Investigators believe the consignment was destined for Uttar Pradesh. The driver and the handyman involved in the incident are currently in police custody for questioning regarding the operation.

Police have identified Azahar Uddin as the alleged kingpin behind the network, though he has not yet been apprehended. Investigators are continuing their search, noting that the seizure indicates a sophisticated operation with potential connections spanning multiple states. Police officials confirmed that "further investigation is in progress and search operations have been intensified to locate the absconding prime accused and identify other individuals connected to the racket."
