Guwahati: Assam police busted an illegal cattle slaughter operation in Charaldanga village on June 26. Officers raided the home of Ramjan Ali following a tip about illicit activity near the Gauripur Police Station.

The suspects tried to run when the team arrived. It did not work. Sub-Inspector Probhash Karmakar and his crew cornered all five men before they could escape the property.

Police took Ramjan Ali, Mehdi Hussain, Mehbub Hussain, Atikul Alom, and Sahid Alom into custody. During the search, investigators discovered fresh blood, bone fragments, and a chopping block on the premises.

The team seized 66.64 kg of suspected cow meat, a live animal, a sword, and several knives. Officers are now digging into whether this group is part of a bigger smuggling network. Police stated, "further investigation is underway to determine whether the accused were linked to a larger illegal cattle slaughter or smuggling network operating in the district."
