Guwahati: Abhayapuri police have arrested a man accused of physically assaulting an eight-year-old girl in the Bongaigaon district of Assam. The suspect, identified as Maniruddin, reportedly fled the state following the June 14 incident.
Authorities launched an investigation after a formal case was registered. Police conducted a search operation that resulted in the arrest of the accused outside of Assam. He was transported to the Abhayapuri Police Station on June 20, where he remains in custody.
The incident has drawn strong reactions from local groups. Members of the All Minority Students' Union have demanded strict legal action against the accused, urging officials to ensure justice for the victim. Police stated that the investigation remains ongoing.
