Assam POCSO Accused Shot While Trying to Escape Police Custody

Guwahati: A 35-year-old man accused of sexual assault under the POCSO Act was wounded during a police encounter in Chaygaon, Assam. Police identified the suspect as Akkas Ali, who had been arrested for allegedly assaulting a 10-year-old girl.

Authorities stated that the incident occurred while officers were transporting Ali for procedural investigation steps. According to police reports, the suspect attacked the officers and attempted to escape custody. In response to the threat, police fired at Ali, wounding him in his left leg.

Emergency responders transported Ali to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital. He remains under police supervision while receiving medical care. Officials confirmed that the criminal proceedings against him will continue, and a standard inquiry into the shooting incident is underway.
