Guwahati: Assam plans to build a new headquarters for the Rongpur Development Block. The government is also eyeing repairs for several Panchayat offices across Cachar. The recent redrawing of district lines left many administrative buildings outdated or unreachable.

Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Atul Bora addressed the Assembly on Wednesday. He confirmed the state sent a formal funding request to the Finance Department. The Cachar Zilla Parishad submitted the plan back in September 2025. "The proposal seeking financial support has already been forwarded to the Finance Department," Bora said.

New boundary rules caused major headaches. Some Gaon Panchayats lack offices entirely. Others lost their previous buildings because they now fall outside new jurisdictions. Current facilities suffer from heavy wear and tear. The lack of space slows down record keeping and public service delivery. The state uploaded the full plan to the NeVA portal for review. Officials await the final green light to begin construction.
