Guwahati: FIFA has granted official accreditation to Assam-based photojournalist Gitika Talukdar for the 2026 men's football World Cup. This selection marks her third consecutive assignment covering the men's tournament and establishes her as the only female photojournalist from India chosen to represent the nation's media contingent at the event.
Talukdar has built a notable career covering major international sporting platforms. Her resume includes the 2018 and 2022 men's FIFA World Cups, as well as the 2019 and 2023 Women's World Cups. Beyond football, she has also reported on the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Her continued presence at these events is considered a testament to her professional expertise and commitment to global sports journalism.
Reflecting on the achievement, Talukdar expressed that this recognition serves as a proud and emotional milestone in her career. She extended her gratitude to FIFA, the All India Football Federation, and the Asian Football Federation for their support. The upcoming 2026 tournament, hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, is set to be the largest edition in history with 48 teams competing.
