Aizawl: Authorities arrested a man from Assam after discovering over 620 grams of heroin in his possession in Mizoram’s Champhai district. The seizure took place on the Zote bypass road during a joint operation conducted by the Mizoram Excise and Narcotics Department and the Assam Rifles.

Officials found the narcotics packed inside 50 soap cases. They also seized a truck that was reportedly being used to transport the drugs. Investigators believe the heroin originated in Myanmar and was destined for Assam.

The suspect, a resident of Lokanathpur in the Cachar district, now faces charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. This arrest marks the latest in a series of anti-drug crackdowns throughout Mizoram this year. Since January, law enforcement agencies in the state have confiscated significant quantities of illegal substances, including 11 kilograms of heroin, 56 kilograms of methamphetamine, and large amounts of ganja and liquor.
