Guwahati: Assam Cabinet Minister Ashok Singhal kicked off the statewide Pulse Polio Programme on Sunday. He made the announcement at the Dhubri Medical College and Hospital to mark National Immunization Day. The drive aims to reach every child in the state.
Officials have put 52,000 health workers on the ground. They are staffing 24,000 vaccination centers. Singhal noted that 95 percent of mothers and children already have coverage thanks to dedicated staff. The state also digitized 99 percent of its immunization management system to boost transparency.
Singhal credited the health progress to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. He vowed to keep improving medical services. "Assam remains focused on ensuring that every child is protected against vaccine-preventable diseases," Singhal said. Local health leaders, including Dr. Jyoti Kumar Das and Dr. Ankumani Saikia, attended the launch to support the push.
