Guwahati: The Regional Meteorological Centre issued a yellow alert for 30 Assam districts today. Residents face a volatile mix of heavy rainfall, lightning, and punishing humidity. The weather is turning fast.
The alert spans a wide area including Kokrajhar, Dhubri, South Salmara, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Barpeta, Goalpara, Kamrup, Kamrup Metro, Darrang, Morigaon, Sonitpur, Nagaon, Hojai, West Karbi Anglong, Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao, Cachar, Sribhumi, Hailakandi, Biswanath, Golaghat, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Jorhat, Dhemaji, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Charaideo, and Tinsukia. Expect chaos.
Sixteen of these districts must prepare for stifling heat and high humidity levels. Meanwhile, Morigaon, Sonitpur, Nagaon, West Karbi Anglong, Karbi Anglong, Biswanath, Golaghat, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, and Tinsukia face the highest risk of heavy downpours and thunderstorms. Lightning strikes remain a significant concern.
Weather officials urged locals to stay alert as conditions shift. The center warned that "sudden weather changes, including lightning, gusty winds and intense showers, may disrupt normal life and urged the public to take necessary precautions while venturing outdoors."
