Guwahati: Authorities in Assam’s Dima Hasao district opened seven spillway gates at the Khandong Dam today. Persistent heavy rain pushed reservoir levels past safety limits. The District Disaster Management Authority warned people living along the Kapili River to stay clear of the water.

Water is flowing downstream in phases to protect the dam structure. Officials told residents to move vehicles and livestock to higher ground immediately. The river will rise. Expect water levels to shift as the Lower Kopili Hydro Electric Project manages its own gate operations near Lanka.

The District Emergency Operations Centre is now fully active. They have set up dedicated hotlines for anyone caught in the rising water. "The advisory has been issued in the interest of public safety to prevent any untoward incidents during the ongoing spell of heavy rains," officials stated in their release.

Keep checking local mobile and WhatsApp channels for the latest gate status. For immediate help, contact the emergency numbers at 03673-236324, 03673-356022, or the toll-free line at 03673-1077.
