Assam Irrigation Staff Train for Flood Emergencies in Morigaon

Guwahati: Irrigation staff from the Nagaon Circle gathered at Gandhi Bhawan in Morigaon for intensive disaster response training. They learned how to handle floods and emergencies. The Morigaon Laharighat Jagiroad Division organized the session alongside the District Disaster Management Authority under a steel wire rope procurement initiative.

Personnel practiced fire safety and basic rescue techniques. This included bandaging wounds, managing choking, and treating snake bites. Trainers also covered survival protocols for earthquakes, lightning strikes, and thunderstorms. They want faster decision-making on the ground.

Officials stressed the urgency of these skills. They need to protect lives and vital agricultural infrastructure. Superintending Engineer Nilutpal Bhuyan and Executive Engineer Karuna Bora oversaw the event. Ranju Sarma from the DDMA and Station Officer Naba Kumar Deka of the Bhuragaon Fire and Emergency Services station also attended. "Officials highlighted the importance of strengthening the disaster-response capacity of field-level Irrigation staff, particularly in protecting lives, infrastructure and agricultural communities during floods and other emergencies." The drill focused on turning teamwork into life-saving action.
