Guwahati: The Assam government has suspended the distribution of subsidised salt, sugar, and pulses under the public distribution system for June and July. This temporary hold affects beneficiaries across the state as authorities manage operations under a vote on account budget following recent assembly elections.

According to the Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs Department, the pause is a necessary administrative step. Officials noted that the supply of these essential goods remains tied to the full state budget for 2026 to 2027, which the incoming government is scheduled to present this July.

Government representatives confirmed that ration distribution for these items will resume once the new budget receives official approval. This measure is expected to ensure the long-term continuity of welfare support for eligible residents after the brief two-month interval.
