Guwahati: The Assam government executed a sweeping bureaucratic overhaul this week. Officials transferred senior IAS and ACS personnel across district administrations and key state departments. The shifts take effect immediately. Authorities claim the moves were made in the interest of public service.
Syedain Abbasi, currently Special Chief Secretary, picks up the Irrigation Department portfolio. He drops his Housing and Urban Affairs duties. Dr. Om Prakash moves from Samagra Shiksha Axom Mission to lead the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department. He also takes on Skill, Employment and Entrepreneurship.
District leadership turned over rapidly. Deba Prasad Misra leaves Hojai for the Home and Political Department. Madhu Sudan Nath exits Chirang for the Agriculture Department. Megha Nidhi Dahal transfers from Dhubri to the Finance Department. He adds a role as Managing Director of the Assam Industrial Development Corporation.
Several other districts saw new faces. Rahul Kumar Gupta heads to Cachar. Sanjoy Dutta takes over Hojai. Ratul Chandra Pathak moves to Majuli. Nabadeep Pathak takes Barpeta, while Pulak Patgiri steps into Udalguri. Srishti Singh leaves Majuli for Morigaon. Gakul Chandra Brahma moves to Chirang, and Lakhinandan Saharia heads to Bongaigaon.
Secretariat roles also shifted. Masanda Magdalin Pertin moves to the Chief Minister’s Secretariat. P. Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy takes charge of the Welfare of Minorities and Development Department. According to the state, the reshuffle is "aimed at strengthening governance and enhancing administrative efficiency across the state."
