Guwahati: The Assam Legislative Assembly opens its budget session on July 6. The session will run through July 31, packing in 16 total sittings. Finance Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah takes the floor on July 10 to present the Annual Financial Statement. He will deliver the full budget estimates for the 2026-27 financial year.
This is the first full budget for Himanta Biswa Sarma’s government since winning a second term. The BJP secured 82 seats in the 126-member House, giving the party its first single-party majority in the state. The National Democratic Alliance holds a total of 102 seats. Alliance partners Asom Gana Parishad and Bodoland People's Front claim 10 seats apiece.
The assembly calendar confirms the upcoming financial plans. According to the provisional business schedule, the government is moving quickly. Back in February, former Finance Minister Ajanta Neog tabled a vote-on-account worth Rs 62,294.78 crore. That interim measure kept the state running until the formal budget process began. Now, the legislature gears up for the main event.
