Guwahati: The Assam government shook up the 13th North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council on July 8. State officials stripped Amendu Hojai of his executive duties and installed Nojit Kemprai in his place. The changes took effect immediately.
The Hill Areas Department issued the formal order after the Governor of Assam exercised powers granted under the 1951 rules for district councils. The official notification confirmed the Governor was "pleased to appoint Shri Nojit Kemprai, MAC as Executive Member of the 13th North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council, with immediate effect."
Hojai stays on the council. He keeps his status as a Member of the Autonomous Council. The order explicitly states, "He shall, however, continue to function as MAC of the 13th North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council," ensuring he retains his seat despite losing his executive power.
