Guwahati: The Assam Forest Department suspended Jorhat Divisional Forest Officer Montu Hazarika today. The move follows a viral audio recording where Hazarika allegedly demanded cash from a dumper truck owner to permit illegal transport operations. He was caught red-handed by the internet.

Assam Forest Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah reviewed the audio clip and ordered immediate disciplinary action. The department acted fast. Hazarika must now report to the Mariani Range Headquarters for the duration of his suspension.

Official documents confirm the suspension stands until departmental proceedings finish. The order notes, "Hazarika has been directed to report to the Mariani Range Headquarters, which will serve as his headquarters during the suspension period." He will receive a subsistence allowance while under investigation.
