Guwahati: The Assam Forest department’s mineral auction portal is facing heat. Critics say the site operates on a private server instead of official government infrastructure. This raises serious questions about data security and compliance with state guidelines.
The website, assamforestonline.in, handles auctions, financial transactions, and bidder information. Records show the domain is registered with GoDaddy, an American firm, rather than through the National Informatics Centre. Experts argue this setup ignores rules requiring government sites to use authorized domains like gov.in or nic.in.
Compliance is missing. The site may fail to meet the "Guidelines for Indian Government Websites" or CERT-In security protocols. Government departments typically must route domain requests through the Directorate of Information Technology and Electronic Communication to ensure they hit the right servers.
The fallout hits the top. Complaints name Assam Special Chief Secretary for the Forest department, M.K. Yadava, regarding the portal's management. The department has yet to provide an official response to these allegations.
