Guwahati: Excise officials in Assam arrested one individual and confiscated a significant quantity of alcohol during a raid on roadside eateries in the Ledo area on Thursday night. The operation, conducted by the Margherita Excise Circle, targeted the illicit sale and distribution of liquor within the Margherita Co-District.

Led by Excise Inspector Nabajeet Buragohain, the team worked alongside local police to inspect several dhabas. The raid resulted in the seizure of 6 bulk litres of Indian Made Foreign Liquor, 6 bulk litres of Country Spirit, and 20 bulk litres of beer. All confiscated products were intended for sale within the state.

Authorities have registered a case against the accused under Section 53(1)(a) of the Assam Excise Act. The suspect is currently appearing before a court to face legal proceedings. Officials stated that the establishment involved is now facing a mandatory closure process, noting that the raid was part of the department's ongoing efforts to curb the illegal liquor trade and ensure compliance with excise laws. The department further stated that, "the establishment concerned is undergoing due judicial process for legal sealing by the competent authority."
