Guwahati: The Sribhumi District Congress Committee has formally requested the suspension of eight party members for alleged anti-party activities. This recommendation follows an internal review held at Indira Bhawan, which included input from the MLAs representing Sonai and South Karimganj.

District Congress President Tapas Purkayastha confirmed that the party has sent a communication to the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee seeking disciplinary action. The list of those facing potential suspension includes a Zila Parishad member, Mustak Ahmed, along with seven other district committee office-bearers.

Leadership within the district unit stated that these individuals acted against the party's interests during the recent Assembly elections. According to Purkayastha, the measure is intended to preserve internal standards, noting that the move was aimed at "maintaining organisational discipline and addressing complaints related to alleged anti-party activities." The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee will now review the report to make a final determination on the disciplinary measures.
