Assam Chief Minister and Nirmala Sitharaman Lead International Yoga Day Session

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma joined Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on the banks of the Brahmaputra River to celebrate International Yoga Day on June 21. The event, which drew a large crowd of participants and local dignitaries, was part of a nationwide series of programs held to promote holistic wellness and a healthy lifestyle.

State ministers Ashok Singhal and Ajanta Neog were among those present at the mass session. During the event, the Chief Minister advocated for the practice of yoga, describing it as an essential tool for maintaining physical and mental health. He stated that "yoga is Bharat’s gift to the world and an ancient practice that promotes a fit and healthy lifestyle."

Sarma further credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for transforming the practice into a global movement that now reaches millions of people. The gathering underscored the government's ongoing effort to raise awareness about the benefits of yoga as an integrated part of daily life for citizens across the country.
