Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet met in Guwahati on Wednesday under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to finalize several key administrative updates. Among the primary outcomes, the government approved the draft address for the Governor, which will be presented during the opening session of the 16th Assam Legislative Assembly on May 22, 2026.

Officials also announced the immediate implementation of the Assam State Data Policy 2026, which replaces the previous 2022 framework. This new policy is designed to foster better coordination between various government departments by establishing a unified data-sharing system. By streamlining how information moves between agencies and reaches the public, the state aims to improve governance efficiency and encourage innovation.

To support these efforts, the government will create a Centre for Data Management. This new nodal agency will oversee a statewide repository focused on artificial intelligence and advanced analytics. Through this centralized approach, the state intends to enhance citizen-centric services and build a more robust data-driven foundation for its future operations.
