Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the state legislative assembly will convene for its budget session on July 6. The session is scheduled to last for 21 days.

Sarma shared these details after leading the first cabinet meeting of his newly expanded ministry in Guwahati. He explained that the government previously passed only a vote-on-account due to the constraints of the recent assembly elections. Once the full budget secures approval, the administration plans to begin distributing benefits for various development schemes starting August 1.

This cabinet meeting was the first for the expanded 16-member team. The assembly session follows the swearing-in of 12 new ministers earlier that day. Four other ministers were sworn in on May 12 when Sarma returned for a second term as head of the NDA government. The alliance secured 102 seats in the election. Regarding the distribution of duties, Sarma stated, "Portfolios for the newly inducted ministers would be finalized within a week, after careful consideration of all aspects."

Beyond budgetary matters, the Chief Minister noted that the names of guardian ministers responsible for overseeing development in specific districts will be released on Saturday.
